TBA(Tert-Butyl Alcohol) CAS 75-65-0
tert-Butyl alcohol (TBA), also called tert-butanol, is the simplest tertiary alcohol, with a formula of (CH3)3COH (sometimes represented as t-BuOH). It is one of the four isomers of butanol. tert-Butyl alcohol is a colorless solid, which melts near room temperature and has a camphor-like odor. It is miscible with water, ethanol and diethyl ether. tert-Butyl alcohol is used as a solvent, ethanol denaturant, paint remover ingredient, and gasoline octane booster and oxygenate. It is a chemical intermediate used to produce MTBE and ETBE by reaction with methanol and ethanol, and TBHP by reaction with hydrogen peroxide.

Production method
1. Sulfuric acid water method by isobutene and sulfuric acid hydration: generally by the extraction of butadiene mixed C4 fractions as raw materials, at 0.7MPa, 15℃ conditions, with 60-70% sulfuric acid esterification, 99% of isobutene is absorbed to produce tert-butyl sulfate, and then hydrolyzed to produce tert-butanol, water vapor desorption, water, refined and purified products. 2. Ion exchange resin water mixed C4 fraction and soft water in the presence of cation exchange resin hydration to produce tert-butanol, after stratification, concentration, 85% tert-butanol. 4. Direct water method with high concentration of heteropoly acid solution as catalyst. The isobutene in the mixed C-4 was selected to hydrate to produce tert-butanol.
